The Danish waste wood market has changed significantly over the past decade. In 2012, around half of Denmark's approximately 400,000 tonnes of recyclable waste wood was still used for energy recovery. Today, an increasing share is recycled into new wood-based products, reflecting stronger circular economy ambitions and growing European demand for secondary raw materials.
Demand for treated waste wood for energy recovery is also increasing, particularly in Germany, where Geminor has grown in recent years by doubling the off-take capacity. However, the market is becoming increasingly challenging as seasonal fluctuations mean that supply and demand rarely peak at the same time. These imbalances are placing growing pressure on logistics, storage capacity and cross-border transport, making resilient supply chains more important than ever.
To support these changing market dynamics, Geminor continues to strengthen its logistics capabilities, market access and long-term partnerships across Northern Europe. The ambition is to ensure that waste wood continues to move efficiently despite seasonal bottlenecks, creating reliable and sustainable supply chains for both producers and industrial off-takers.
