The certifications were issued by the independent certification body Preferred by Nature. They cover the purchase, storage and resale of certified wood chips and pellets.
The new trader certifications complement the SBP Producer certification awarded to Geminor-owned Bøn Biobrensel in September. While Bøn can bring qualifying biomass from non-certified Norwegian suppliers into certified supply chains, the Danish and Finnish companies can trade biomass that is already certified.
Two routes to certified biomass
Together, the certifications give Geminor two sources of supply: its own Norwegian production and international certified suppliers. SBP certification also allows Geminor to supply biomass to Sweden with documentation that meets the requirements of the Swedish hållbarhetsbesked, further expanding the group’s supply options across the Nordic market.
“With Denmark and Finland certified, we are no longer limited to sourcing through our Norwegian production operations. We can purchase certified biomass internationally and supply it across markets while maintaining the required documentation,” says Tadesse Negash, Sustainable Biomass Coordinator at Geminor, who led the certification process.
Part of Geminor’s biomass strategy
The certifications support Geminor’s decision in May 2026 to make biomaterials a strategic priority. Together, they provide a stronger platform for growing the group’s biomass business across the Nordics.
“Moving waste across borders and documenting every step is what Geminor has built its business on. Biomass is a natural next step. A certified Nordic value chain makes us a stronger partner for customers who need to cut emissions and prove it,” says Håvard Framnes, CEO of Geminor.
