The certification includes the SBP EU RED scheme and was issued following an audit by Preferred by Nature. It covers wood chip production at four storage sites in Norway, with feedstock ranging from forestry and sawmill residues to material from road verges, infrastructure and urban areas, as well as garden waste.
Meeting new market requirements
Under RED III, biomass used in the EU must meet stricter sustainability and greenhouse gas requirements, increasing the need for documented compliance throughout the supply chain. The SBP EU RED scheme provides a recognised framework for demonstrating that qualifying biomass meets these requirements.
Bøn Biobrensel guides suppliers through each step of the process. Suppliers provide a declaration of origin with each delivery, while Bøn offers practical support and handles the more complex work, including risk assessments, origin checks and the sustainability data required further along the supply chain.

Expanding the certified biomass value chain
The certification is part of a broader push into biomass at Geminor, an area where the company has recently strengthened its team through several new hires. Geminor is now working towards trader with storage certification in Denmark and Finland as the next step in developing its Nordic biomass operations.
